Thanks to everyone who came to last Saturday’s concert, James and Meera enjoyed the evening and commented on the “warm and appreciative” audience, we hope you all enjoyed it. In the concert James talked about some of the Brazilian composers and performers he is particularly drawn to, here are some details if you would like to do some exploring of your own:
- Aquarelle Guitar Quartet & Sara Dowling (forthcoming Chandos album together)
- Clarice Assad (singer/pianist; daughter of Sergio Assad) - Garoto (early 20th century pioneering Brazilian guitarist) Our next concert is a piano recital with Viv McLean in February 2025 which we are already looking forward to! |
Thanks to Ensemble Renard for the concert on Saturday 26th October and also to all of our audience who joined us. The wind quintet was a wonderful mix of instruments and the quality of performance exceptional, a great evening. |
Thanks to the Adderbury Ensemble for a great concert to kick off our season. We are now turning our thoughts to Ensemble Renard, who are taking us for "a breeze through the 20 th century" on Saturday the 26th of October. We will hear exciting music from composers including Barber, Ligeti and Nielsen. Renard have appeared at the Aldeburgh Festival and on BBC Radio 3 and are sure to give a rewarding concert. |
Don't forget it's our first concert of the season on Saturday. We are looking forward to Chopin, Mozart and some devine Dvorak, so do join us if you can. Members of the regular ensemble will be joined by the pianist Viv McLean, who is one of our most popular performers, so we know it will be a good concert! |
We have a change of programme for Viv McLean's piano recital in February 2025. Viv will now play Brahm's intriguing Variation and Fugue on a Theme by Handel. This replaces the Schubert variations. This is an interesting piece, as the concert takes us through from the late Baroque to the early Romantic periods of music. Full details of the programme for Viv's concert are on the website. | |

We are getting ready to announce details of our forthcoming season. Expect to see changes to the website in the coming days. Tickets will go on sale later in the summer. |
We have been advised that Making Music, who host our website, will be undertaking important work on the platform on Wednesday 29th May. At times our website may be unavailable that day. Do keep looking though, as we will be announcing the full details of our 2024-25 season very soon. |
We are sad to announce that Mrs Muriel Shearme, one of the founder members of the Club, passed away last week, days before her 99th birthday. As well as being a founder member, Muriel was the Club's Secretary for many years and a dedicated and enthusiastic supporter of the Club until health issues prevented her from attending concerts. She was a lovely lady and will be much missed. |
Thanks to Ensemble Hesperi for a great concert on Saturday evening. We loved the evocation of London musical life 300 years ago, and the huge variety of music (particularly the Scotch tunes!) all played so professionally. We also appreciated such a good audience joining us for the evening. This brings our season to an end, we thank everyone for coming along and joining us for the music. We start again at the end of September with a new season of varied concerts, look out for the programme and ticket sales being announced in the Summer! |
6.45pm on Saturday 16th March Ensemble Hesperi will give a pre-concert talk which will be a relaxed introduction to their instruments (with demonstrations) and to the programme itself. They'll also talk about the different roles they have within their chamber group, and will end with a Q and A session. The talk will begin at 6.45pm and admission is free for anyone with a ticket for the concert which follows after a short break at 7.30pm. |
Don't forget our last concert of the season is with Ensemble Hesperi on Saturday 16th March. Details of Hesperi's concert are on our website here. We will hear a lively selection of music centred around London, wich was becoming the musical hub of Europe, in the 1700s. Hesperi specialise in this type of music and are very professional and entertaining - not to be missed! |
Thanks to Frederico and Milo for yesterday evening's concert, we had a large audience which were very appreciative of the music making. There is no doubt the flute and harp work well together. We also appreciated that a couple of audience members travelled from Portugal for the concert! |
We have some minor changes to the programme for Frederico Paixiao and Milo Harper's recital on the 24th February. We are advised by Fred this is a result of some "road testing" of the overall programme in recent concerts. The slightly reduced programme is shown on the website concert page. It should be a fascinating concert, with the instrument combination sounding good in the church acoustic, and might help us turn our minds to Spring! Also, do remember that we have a "Spring Special" price offer for internet purchase of tickets for this concert and Ensemble Hesperi. |
As the snowdrops finally start to come out, we are looking forward to the two remaining concerts of our season and are offering a special deal on tickets. Buy tickets for both February and March for just £35 (saving £5) - simply select the "Spring special" for either concert to buy both tickets. This is an online offer only and is not available for 'on the door' purchases. |
We wish all of our concert club members, supporters and audience a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. |

Their joyous enthusiasm and engagement with the audience was wonderful and their musicianship immense! A very special performance and a great start to our season. Expect more great music from Brother Tree Sound on 28 October. |
A quick reminder that our first concert of the season is tomorrow evening on Saturday 30th September. We have had strong ticket sales for Echor Music's performance of Schubert, Mozart and Mendelssohn and we think this should be a special concert. Eight string players in Mendelssohn's Octet should sound special in the church! There are still plenty of tickets available and we look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday evening. |
The first concert of our new season is coming up soon! And what better way to celebrate than exploring one of the favourite chamber pieces ever written, Mendelssohn’s riveting String Octet? Echor are a collective of professional musicians based in the Chilterns bringing world-class performances to Local venues. The rest of the programme will also include Mozart’s famous Clarinet Quintet as well as Schubert’s beautifully gentle String Trio.
